2666: A Novel Roberto Bolano
Publisher: Picador

As I was reading the passage in Bolaño's novel 2666 on page 40 through 41 I was reminded of the article from the New York Times we read last week entitled, “Analyzing Literature and Words by Numbers”. Facetious, I know, but hey, I got through the book. 2666 by Roberto Bolano, translated from the Spanish by Natasha Wimmer. 2666 opens with a novel about four European literary critics, academics, who specialize in the work of a fictional German novelist, Benno von Archimboldi. Namely, Bolaño's wish was for 2666 to be published in separate volumes, one per year ( I believe). I can imagine that as a book 2666 would present a huge challenge to me, because it's very testing in places. Roberto Bolaño died shortly after presenting the first draft of 2666 to his publisher, Anagrama. Perhaps the only writer of international inter. It was reported that he was not completely finished writing or editing the novel at the time of his death. 2666 is a detective novel featuring a character from Savage Detectives as the narrator. I'd say further, among many other attributes, that both novels offer nice examples of viable political fiction, contrary to certain claims. And the experience was generally positive. 2666 is the literary testament of the Latin-American writer--as he called himself--Roberto Bolaño. I have very little patience for books I'm not enjoying and I have no reluctance to put a book down forever if I'm not getting "pleasure"* from it. What more is there to say about 2666? He worked on his novel 2666 until his last days, which was finally published in 2004 after his death. I'd say 2666 stands with the very short By Night in Chile as the best of these. And this is probably why, out of all the 'books' in 2666, I liked Book II best. €”The Part About Fate,” 2666, p.348. The question of whether 2666 is a total novel seems interesting enough for its own thread. Roberto Bolaño's final novel 2666, released posthumously, is a sprawling literary tome.
